The Essential Tips For Immigrating To Canada As A Student, Visa Holder Or PR Holder:
1. Medical Insurance
If the immigrant is a student, the insurance will start at the starting date of their course. Till then, they don’t have insurance. So it is advisable to have insurance till the first date of the class.
For a PR holder who lands in Canada, the OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) will start after three months from the date of arrival. There is no Medical coverage right from the beginning. So, it is essential to have insurance for the first three months.
I’ll give you an example:
Recently, one person who came to Canada as an immigrant PR holder was without medical insurance. One fine day the poor guy got his leg broken, and the cost he had to pay for his treatment was nearly around $ 25000. The Canadian Govt. didn’t pay a single penny for his deed.
So it is advisable to make sure that everyone must have medical insurance till the OHIP starts; even if the insurance overlaps with the OHIP, it’s ok.
2. ID (Identity Document)
The passport is your ID when you come to Canada for the first time.
Other than the passport, the document which can be used as an ID is the G1 LICENSE.
What is a G1 License?
A G1 license is Ontario’s learner’s permit, which you receive after passing an eye exam and a written knowledge test.
How to get a G1 license?
You can practice the G1 driving license exam while in India. When you come to Canada, all you have to do is pass the G1 License driving test here and take your License with a photo on it, and this can be used as your official ID in Canada. Now you don’t have to run around with your passport everywhere as it can be lost/stolen anywhere.
What to do after getting G1?
When you got your G1 License, apply for a G2 license. It will take around eight to twelve months, depending on the package of the classes you get.
What are the Benefits of G2 License?
With a G2 license, you will receive certification from the Ministry Of Transportation.
How Ministry Of Transportation Certificate Is Beneficial For You?
With this certificate in your hand, you can save a lot of bucks on your Medical Insurance. It is not just for the first year or so but for like ten or twenty years. For reference, $500 can be saved in a year. So for like ten or twenty years, you can save around $5000 to $10000. It is a pretty insane amount indeed for students.
G license for extra benefits:
After G2, you can take a G license as well. This License is allowed to take in one year after the G2. With this License, your insurance amount will further reduce even after twenty years. In Canada, older licenses will improve your insurance date, which results in low renewal costs.
3. Road Safety
1. Don’t walk on roads at night.
2. When you cross the road, your attire should not be ALL BLACK. Put on some WHITE clothes as well.
3. Wait for your turn to cross the road.
Conclusion
Be careful while you are in Canada and follow the above tips as you spend a lot of money to come here. Your parents are worried, concerned about you while sending you to Canada. So be patient, relax and enjoy your life.
